This is surreal. I am writing out words I’ve anticipated for four years now—Pansy: A Black American Memoir is officially out now!
I’m truly overwhelmed with gratitude and I want to thank you all for journeying with me.
Thanks to all of you who’ve requested ARCS, left reviews, and who have reached out to me to share your thoughts on this project. Thank you to the few and mighty IndieGoGo contributors and to all of you who posted comments here to express your excitement. I’m super grateful to DeMoir Books & Things in Memphis, who sponsored and facilitated an amazing PANSY signing and Q&A this past weekend. And to all of my Memphis people who showed up!
Thank you to fellow Substackers
, of Rooted Magazine and who’ve featured PANSY in their newsletters.PANSY’s official publication date was yesterday, October 22nd. This means you can get this book just about anywhere online, and in a few select indie bookstores around the US and UK.
You can also check out PANSY on Libby, a free app that allows users to borrow and read digital media from your local library.
Oh! And look out for the audiobook version of PANSY—it’s set to release early next year.
What folks are saying about PANSY:
A tenderly honest, endearingly witty mosaic of stories and poems. - Sabrina Imbler, HOW FAR THE LIGHT REACHES
A captivating ode to the constant work of becoming—and understanding—oneself. PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This heartwarming and heartbreaking memoir is a must read.
THE LESBIAN LIBRARY
Some ways to help PANSY thrive:
Buy it—for yourself or a friend (or a bookclub)! Paperback, hardcover, and/or e-books are available now. Highly recommend purchasing at an indie spot if you can. (Audiobook incoming so stay tuned!).
Leave a review. If you enjoy PANSY, please let the world know at whatever public review site of your choice—even if that’s your personal blog. Maybe you'll introduce someone new to this indie book.
Ask your library to carry it. Check out your local library’s website or go in person to recommend PANSY. You can also do this for e-book copies through Libby.
Recommend it to your local bookstore. Same as with the library, indie bookstores are often eager to support indie works.
Tell your friends. Word-of-mouth is still the best way to get the word out about books. If you like PANSY, or you know of someone who might—tell them!
Donate (Cashapp: @blkpansy) I’m hoping to do a mini-book tour and will also be submitting PANSY to a few select competitions over the next few months. Submission fees are high (as they’re typically meant for major publishers), so whatever you can donate helps.
Again, thank you all for your love, care, and support. I’m doing my best to savor this moment before I delve into my next project (which will be a fantasy, btw 😛).
Warmly,
Jasper “Jaz” Joyner
I am so excited! Happy publication day!
Happy pub day!! 💜
