A poem about apple cider vinegar and other magical things
another quick one for y'all to close out 2023
Hello, great people of the internets.
I’ve moved into a more traditional work schedule as of late. A result of this has been that time, oh time, escapes me. Constantly. So this week, I have a poem for y’all and I’mma let you go. It’s about seemingly mundane Black cultural traditions that go way deeper than many of us often think.
apple cider vinegar
For your bath
And them flakes
And your skin
To stay clean
And to rinse
And that stench
And that mess
to stay fresh
And that sauce
For your food
And your sugar
And spice
And honey,
Make sure it has
the Mother
Or it ain’t ‘gone work
Quick Update: The PANSY campaign is now closed. It raised technically 2 percent of its goal and low-key ‘bout 60 percent in service donations. You know what that means? Pansy is officially a scrappy little indie project. And I’m good with that! Oh, we’re bout to get real creative here, friends. But if you feel it in your spirit to donate to the cause, by all means, you may do so by sending me a tip via the dollar sign in this link right here.
As always, thank you all so much for your time and care. We likely won’t speak again until 2024. Can you believe?! I hope you find yourselves some joy in between time.
Talk soon and happy (almost) new year,
Jasper
That MOTHER LINE - whew!!!!!
